First, we woke up and got Shipley's Donuts on the way to the Aquarium at Fair Park.
This aquarium has been under renovation but is now almost opened for real. They are slowly filling the tanks back up, etc. so until then you can pay $5 to go see what is on display already. It was very worth it. It is a small aquarium, but the perfect size for a little walking girl like Brieleigh.
David and Brieleigh with the King Crabs... wow they were massive!
Stingray Bay was my absolute favorite! It was a huge pool outside with a deck under a tent. You can look over the rail and look down into a huge tank with sharks, sting rays, and huge sea creatures (kind of scared that I might fall in or drop Brieleigh)! Then there was a tank with different size sting rays that you could pet and feed. I wanted to be brave and touch a sting ray so I did and was so proud of myself. Then I tried to feed one but chickened out and accidentally dropped my fish. (They wanted you to hold it in between your fingers and let the sting ray swim over you and suck it up- yikes!)
She was never even scared, but kept doing her excited laugh that she makes everytime she sees an animal.
She loved touching them.
Next, We walked around Fair Park, through the lagoon and to some things outside the other museums.
After that we went to the Nasher Sculpture Center because they had classical type live music. We are members so we thought it would be a fun free activity. Well we stood outside the gallery and listened instead of watched because they were very strict about not making noise so Brieleigh would never have made it. We shared a meal at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant.
A fork in the garden.
Next, we went to holiday samplings at Kroger and Whole Foods. We also did some shopping looking for Christmas presents and some other items without much success. We came home in time to catch the end of the Mississippi State game online. All in all it was such a wonderful time to just be together with our little family. Even though we live in a big city, we often do not have time and money to "discover" it so it was nice to find some time and cheap activities we could all enjoy.
