Camping at Colorado Bend State Park

This past weekend we went camping with some friends, Jane and Andrew. We left Friday after work and got home Sunday night. It was alot of fun, very beautiful, and a little bit different camping when I was 29 weeks pregnant. Our campsite was right on the Colorado River which we floated around in one afternoon. There were also waterfalls and natural springs around. One waterfall was 65 feet high and you had to hike to it. We set off to find it from our campsite thinking it was a 5 mile roundtrip, but arrived at the waterfall 2.5 hours later very worn out. We are pretty sure out 5 mile roundtrip information was a little inaccurate. Everyone at the waterfall was impressed we had gone on the long trail, and one guy asked if we wanted to take a shorter trail back to his car and he would give us a ride back since I was pregnant. David, not wanting me to get much more worn out, hiked back with the guy to his car who drove him to get our car. The other three of us ate lunch and met him at the parking lot. The guy was very nice to give David a ride, and I am thankful that David left the waterfall almost right after we got there to hike with strangers so that he could save me from walking the long trail all the way home- I have such a sweet, selfless husband! Anyway, we saw snakes, deer, and armodillas (which David chased almost into our campsite). We had alot of yummy food over our campfire, and just enjoyed God's creation. The scenery at times was breathtaking and such evidence of God's majesty and beauty in His creation.

David had an interview!!

David had an interview today which we are very thankful for. He thought he did well, and it sounds like a job that he would enjoy. It is an archeologist job working at an environmental firm. He had a phone interview last week, then meet with two people in person today. The boss is out of town until next week, but hopefully he will hear something when he returns. Your prayers would definitely be appreciated that this job would work out, or if this is not the job for David that God would open up other doors!

Doesn't he look so professional (and cute!)?

P.S. Check out our poll on the right side of the blog!

Sermon Notes on Romas 1:18-31

I thought that it might be a good idea to write down on here what I learned from the sermons or other Bible studies that we go to not only to help me think about it more, but also hoping that others can be encouraged or learn from it as I have. I feel like so often today that we as Christians have conversations that are so much on the surface. I am not saying these conversations are bad, but why would we not have just as many conversations about Scripture or deeper things that God is doing in our lives? I definitely am guilty of this, but we should not be ashamed of the gospel or too shy to speak about it to others (especially with those that we are closest to).
Our pastor just started preaching through Romans. This Sunday his sermon was titled "Sinner's Island" where he talked about how living a life that is stranded in brokeness feels like home to us b/c we do not treasure God's glory. We, as sinners, hate God's glory and don't want it because it is hard and complicated and means that we have to submit to Him. But the gospel is that God is stubborn and jealous for His glory. He, therefore, will not let us be satisfied with anything less than Himself- His glory and beauty. Instead of living like we are loved by this glorious God, we live like we are judged by having to submit to Him. He talked about also how when we have God's glory, that is what should flow out of us into this dark world- our lives should be different, our families should be different, our neighborhood should be different, and our city should be different b/c of this glory which changes us. The gospel teaches us that we are broken shells, but Jesus loves us in our brokeness then His glory fills us with His beauty. How amazing is that!
At another point he talked about goodness being one of God's attributes and said that ALL God gives to us is good even though it often (or usually) seems so mysterious and complicated. This was comforting because I was thinking of difficult situations that God puts in our lives that seem so complicated such as one of my good friends, Anje, giving birth to a stillborn baby a little over halfway through her pregnancy, and what David went through with his professor at SMU that still makes no sense and changed his whole career, and the list could go on with difficult situations that I am sure many of you have experienced- but God is still good and all that He gives us is good! That is always a good reminder for me.

Squirrel Hunting

David has found a new pastime... squirrel hunting. Ok, so it is not exactly hunting, but more squirrel deterring. We have a nice sized pecan tree in our backyard that is (or was) filled with big, luscious pecans. Our squirrel friends, though, always eat everyone of them before they are ripe leaving us with none. David decided he was going to attempt to save some of the remaining pecans by shooting the squirrels with his air soft gun. I don't think too many of them have actually been hit, but they definitely run and hide when he comes. He shot a pecan out of one of the squirrels mouth recently. I am highly entertained watching him run outside every time he sees a squirrel running around up there!

Belly Picture: Week 28

I wish I had been taking belly pictures every week of my pregnancy so far, but alas, I have not. Hopefully from here on out we will remember so that we will have those to look back on. I will share them with you as we take them. It feels so weird gaining so many pounds and growing out of ALL your clothes in such a short amount of time. It is all for the baby though... then hopefully my body will return back to normal!

Welcome and What We Are Up To...

Thanks for visiting our blog! We hope to share what God is doing in our lives, pictures, pregnancy updates and baby updates to come, and whatever else we feel like sharing.
Currently, we have had alot going on. David got his Masters in Archeology from SMU at the end of the summer then found out that he is not going back to school right now at least due to the lack of funding on their part (among other things). So now he is looking for a job preferably in archeology and preferably in Dallas for the time being since the baby is coming so soon, we already have a doctor etc, and we have a house. We are praying that the Lord opens up doors for him soon to find a job whether that be in his field here in Dallas or something completely different. I passed my registered dietitian exam last month and finally found a PRN clinical dietitian job at Baylor University Medical Center in downtown Dallas (the same hospital I where I worked as a diet technician when we first moved here before my internship). What does that involve exactly? Good question, but I will save that for another post. We are very thankful that the Lord has provided a job where I can use and practice my skills while at the same time having a flexible schedule which is what I really want after the baby is born so that I can spend as much time as possible raising and spending time with our child.
