Texas State Fair

Sorry that we have not posted in awhile. I was hoping David would post about his job, but I have not been successful in making that happen yet- maybe this weekend. And more belly pictures to come soon!
We did go to the Texas State Fair last weekend though. We went two days in a row! Friday was with David's company for Fair Day and Saturday we went with Wes, his parents, and Katie because he got us some free teacher tickets! Sorry for the lack of pictures- the first day it was raining and cold, and the second day it was cold and threatening to rain so I think we left the camera at home just in case.
Friday we went the see the milking parlor, looked at livestock, watched a livestock show, looked at some very uniquely odd chickens, saw goats and sheep, got free samples at the Food and Fiber pavilion (and some $1 chocolate milk- best deal at the fair), went to the petting zoo, and ate a funnel cake and fried peaches and cream (the fried food winner of the year- very good fresh peaches too!) The livestock is my favorite part of the fair especially since I want to live on a farm one day when we move home to Mississippi- I want a dairy cow or two, some chickens, and goats. Nothing I have to kill to eat though! I am not a vegetarian, but I just cannot kill my pets that I raise up and nurture. I have to leave that for someone else then not think about it.
Saturday we met Wes there. We looked at exhibits, went to a bird show, got more free samples, went to a diving show, back to the petting zoo where we fed the animals this time, went to a car show, watched the parade, and saw fireworks and a light/fountain show at dark. Every year at the fair there is a contest beforehand to see who can make the best fried food. Then the top 8 new winners get to sell their food at the fair along with all the past years winners. This day we only got a funnel cake (and nachos b/c I needed something a little less fried), but we tried a bite of many different fried foods that the others got- fried butter (most creative winner), chicken fried bacon, fried pork chips, and fried texas pecan pie. The peaches the day before were definitely the best, but I still prefer food non-fried definitely!
It was a good weekend at the fair, and I kept thinking that next year Lord willing we will have a little baby with us! Fairs are more fun with kids I think because that is when all my fun memories are from.

  2. Jamey, "very uniquely odd"?? And now I know you want to live on a farm with cows, chickens, and goats. I especially like the "in Mississippi" part!. Love
