Viva la Fiesta

We went to visit David's grandparents in San Antonio on April 14-16th. We participated in our first Fiesta celebration. We drove in late Thursday night so that we could be rested and ready for the festivities on Friday. We left their house around 11 Friday morning to head to the parade for a parking spot. The Battle of Flowers parade was from 12:45-4. It was alot of fun. Brieleigh LOVED it! There were tons of high school, college, and military bands, and Brieleigh would dance for all of them. She was fascinated the whole time until she fell asleep. She slept in my lap for about 2 hours then woke up and was right back at it!

She loved the music and the horses!

My favorite part of the parade was the Fiesta royalty. I did not completely understand it, but apparently daughters or granddaughters of very rich people get to be duchesses. They wear these dresses which are 25,000-50,000 dollars and take at least 8 months to make. It is a dress with a huge decorated train. I wish I had some pictures! When they ride in the parade everyone says, "Show us your shoes!" at which they lift their dress to reveal their unique shoes- anything from self-painted cowboy boots to slippers.

After the parade, we got stuck in tons of traffic but finally found a bathroom and a way through the chaos to Night in Old San Antonio. It had food from many different cultures, We sampled a burrito, brisket biscuit, and some kind of meat in a tortilla which was all pretty tasty. Brieleigh has a strawberry smoothie while we listened to an oldies group on the Riverwalk Theater. The event was pretty packed and mostly youmger people without kids so we did not stay too long. It was fun to visit it for a bit though.

Nana bought Brieleigh all sorts of toys for coming to visit. Brieleigh had a blast with them and still loves the ones she brought home. Nana said that grandmothers have a right to do that. :)
Here is Brieleigh spinning around in her ballet skirt from Nana. She would spin circle after circle.

Nana took Brieleigh both mornings out to feed the fish and birds. Here they are watching the birds eat. I took the picture through the window so not as to make Brieleigh see me and want her Mommy.
They sat out there together for quite awhile!

Grandaddy, Brieleigh, and Nana in their driveway. We stayed out in the sunshine in the driveway for the better part of Saturday morning. It was so beautiful out there!

Nana, Brieleigh, and David taking a little stroll in the neighborhood.

Grandaddy trying to hug Brieleigh. She can be pretty squirmy!

After hanging out in the beautiful sunshine, we went the Brackenridge Park. We walked past the creek and ducks then rode the train and ate popcorn. Brieleigh was almost more fascinated with her first introduction to popcorn than the train. I think she really enjoyed the ride though.

We left Saturday afternoon to head back to Dallas. We were so thankful to finally have a chance to go see Grandaddy and Nana. Brieleigh really enjoyed being there, and we hope to make the drive again soon!
