Grandaddy

On Saturday, August 13th, my grandfather, Graham Havis Tempel, went to be with Our Lord. While it was hard and is still sad, I am thankful that he is no longer in pain and can think clearly without dementia. I will always remember His Christian life and legacy that he left behind. He was my last grandparent to go and my favorite (I think it is ok to admit that now since no one is around to get their feelings hurt :). I often think about him being in Heaven with Gran who is, I am sure, keeping him in line. I often wonder if he is talking to my dad and telling him all about what has been happening with us.

Here are some of my favorite memories of Grandaddy:
~Putting pennies on the train tracks, then going back to search for our flat pennies
~Riding around in the Buick through Brookhaven, MS to look at the jailhouse, people's houses, and the coffee pot (building with a huge   pot on top)
~Going to get icees from the Cracker Barrel gas station
~Being tucked into our pallet while he told us Millie stories (Grandaddy originals)
~Sometimes getting to sleep at the foot of his bed, then getting to crawl in between him and Gran in the mornings
~Playing "Mother May I" on his stairs
~Letting me take a vote for where to eat breakfast (even though Shoneys always won)
~Going to Wal-Mart nearly everyday
~A love for peppermints and silver bells (Hershey's kisses)
~Giving us all a Russel Stover's chocolate bunny for Easter
~Saying the Apostle's Creed at church- Everytime we get to "very God of very God" in the Nicene Creed, I can always hear him saying that (funny how little things that the stick in your memory forever)
~Reading his Bible (that was literally hanging on by a thread) to us before holiday meals, then always praying, "Please bring us all safely back here together next year."
~Making parmesan bread for us for breakfast
~Taking us for rides on his old-tyme lawn-mower
..... I could probably continue on for awhile, but I just wanted to preserve some of these precious memories on "paper".

The Tempel Clan after the burial at Bowie's Barbeque... not great lighting, but nice to have nonetheless

The great grandkids at Bowies- Peter and Brieleigh
