David's birthday was July 21st. He turned 28- two more years of the 20's for him! Still young. I had activities to do for his birthday planned for everyday of the week (because my family always called it a birthday week!). Unfortunately, he had the most crazy busy week at work and often didn't get home until very late. Friday he stayed all day until 3:00 am the next morning at the office totaling 23 straight hours of work. Needless to say, my plans didn't all pan out. I did send him brownies at work Monday though from Tiff's Treats, and Wednesday he came home around 7pm. We had cheese fondue (yummy!) and attempted a meat fondue, but our broth wouldn't simmer :( so we had to cook the meat in the skillet. He had lots of birthday calls that night so we didn't get to eat cake and open presents until late. I wanted to make a cake similar to the one we had at our wedding (white cake with whipping cream icing). I made a recipe for white sheet cake from Ina Garten (one of my favorite chefs) but made it in two cake pans. I made it into four layers with a powdered sugar/whipped cream icing. It was slightly more dense than I would have liked (maybe I should have stuck to the sheet pan), but it was very tasty and David loved it which was what I was going for! Much better than boxed cake at least.

"Happy Birthday to you"- yes, David sings the song to himself every year. Either because he doesn't like the attention all on him or he doesn't like my singing?

Blowing out the candles

Birthday Cake- I have never prided myself in having the most beautiful food but usually tasty.
I was impressed on the neatness of this cake though (for me at least).

The inside- it has 4 layers, but the insides soaked up the icing a good deal.

David opening presents. Notice Brieleigh making a break for the rest of the presents. She was going crazy with the the paper and boxes and new items!

Brieleigh wanting to try out the french press I got David. I also got him a soft sided cooler (for the Rangers games) and some chocolate caramel coffee grounds.
