Brieleigh’s Farm Animal Birthday Party

We had Brieleigh a little first birthday party on December 18, 2010. We invited some of our friends but tried to keep the kids around her age without a lot of older kids. One of her little friends came to play with her, Berkley Swindle with her mom Jen, and a few of our couple friends, Katie and Wes Baker and Bobbie and Lorraine Holland. We were so thankful for our friends coming to celebrate with Brieleigh especially since we had no family around to come.

We had it in the morning so had brunch food: grits with cheese cubes, mini bran muffins, sausage balls, fruit salad, coffee/milk/juice, and of course, birthday cake (homemade Hot Chocolate Cake). We ate, cut the cake, opened some presents, then took the kids for a ride in Brieleigh’s new farm wagon.

We had farm animal plates, cups, and napkins. We had farm animals on the cake, and Brieleigh wore her “Barnyard Cutie” jacket. We tried to find some real farm animals to have there but it was not quite the right time of the year. We could have ordered some chicks, but you have to order at least 25. What on earth would we have done with 25 chicks in Dallas??

Brieleigh got some fun books! One of her favorites is a book with real farm pictures. She loves making animal noises,  though all she knows is “woof”, “meow”, and “moo”. It is so cute though- I will try to steal a video soon.

She got a farm animal Leap Frog for the fridge! It sings and you try to match the animal   heads and tails. She has not quite figured out the putting the animals in (just taking them out), but she loves to make it sing so she can dance.

The Birthday Cake. Ok, let me explain… I love homemade food so of course I opted to make her cake. I had made the cake before and knew it was delicious. Only I did not remember that the icing had to be frozen for at least 2 hours prior to icing the cake. Well we found that out 1.5 hours before the party. So it did not chill all the way and became a runny mess. Come to find out (after we tested it late that night) if you whip the icing it turns out beautiful!

Brieleigh so excited to try her first cake!

Everyone said the icing was appropriate because it turned into a good mud puddle for the pigs! I had such creative ideas for this cake. SIGH… Oh well, at least it tasted yummy, and Brieleigh enjoyed it!

Brieleigh was very dainty eating her cake. She mainly got it on her mouth and hands!

Just before Brieleigh stood up and tumbled over the side… she didn’t even cry. Good thing she landed on leaves!
